Sufi Meditation: A Doorway to Reality

Understanding Sufi Meditation

We are so misleading by the material world that we fail to realise the real world behind. The Sufi method of contemplation serves as a portal, enabling one to free themselves from the distractions of this world and achieve a union with the absolute truth. Such practice promotes — what we, in the East, call — "dying before dying," a process of self -negation where one moves beyond any sense of "I," and identifies with divine realities.

By regular practice with dedication, meditators are able to set themselves free:

Detach from worldly illusions

Discover spiritual truths

Reach higher levels of understanding and fulfillment

Principles of Sight in Sufi Meditation

Sufi meditation introduces two forms of sight:

There are two ways to look at things that Sufi meditation opens up:

Sight: Limited to the material world, belongs to the physical realm that depends upon sensory perception.

Spiritual Vision: Unbounded, focused only on spiritual realities, not constrained by the material plane.

Spiritual sight refers to the ability, during meditation, to see truths which takes practitioners closer to the presence of Allah.

The Role of a Spiritual Guide

Guidance in Zikr and Meditation

Sufi meditation and Zikr are not to be trifled with. Having a spiritual guide, a Shaykh or Peer Sahib, is important. The write people would prescribe the right words of wisdom and make sure that the seekers’ journey will be free from negativity.

It can lead to confusion or disrupted spiritual balance when not engaged in properly. If you are starting with Zikr or meditation, it is highly recommended that you seek permission (Ijazah) from a Sufi master to practice Zikr.

Sufi meditation is the ideal gateway towards building a deep connection with Allah beyond worldly possessions through the power of Zikr and Wazaif. Daily prayers and obligations guarantee our salvation, but not anything beyond that and reminding and meditation open doors to higher spiritual stations.

Reaching to God is not an easy thing however, it requires a lot of effort, continuous struggle and the guidance of some spiritual guide/priest/teacher. Through the process of Sufi meditation we slowly walk away from illusions towards the ultimate[clarification needed] reality.

Through the practice of Sufi meditation, believers from a variety of backgrounds can experience peace, contentment, and closeness to Allah. These bounties are never-ending to those who seek them with sincere heart, be it in a Sufi meditation center or in practise by oneself.
